Success on our first Industrial Trade and Career Fair
Our first annual Industrial Trade and Career Fair was a success after much planning and cooperation between PAZ, Marshall University Mid Ohio Valley Center, Mason County Career Center, Workforce West Virginia, and Marshall Community and Technical College.
To kick off the fair was WV Governor Joe Manchin who gave a rousing speech about the need for the skilled workforce. The Governor met with each vendor briefly and many of the individuals who attended. Gov. Manchin’s speech touted the need for the educational system to do more training, and to listen and work closely with industry and their needs. Our survey of PAZ members show over the next 2 -10 years there will be thousands of skilled jobs available due to baby boomers retiring here in the Mid Ohio Valley.
Participating included 13 industries, 8 educational facilities, and 4 service agencies. Over 300 individuals showed up from all across the Ohio Valley to learn more about the type of positions that will be available and the skills needed to apply for these positions. Welders, electricians, pipe fitters, mechanics and general laborers are just a few that were discussed. Thanks to all who participated and made the fair a success.
PAZ will continue to work to get the information out to the general public about the need for the skilled workforce. We have just started our mission to make sure that we have a well trained workforce and with continued cooperation from our educational partners, state agencies and many others we will meet the challenge that lies before us.
